Overview
The primary goal of Applied Mathematics are to have students develop critical-thinking skills through problem solving and model real-world situations mathematically to make predictions. Topics are approached through conceptual understanding and big ideas with less emphasis on performing algorithms and calculations.
Understanding the role and function of technology is an integral part of Applied Mathematics. Graphing calculators and computers are used by students for mathematical explorations, modeling, and problem solving. Spreadsheets, with functions defined by the student, are also used extensively.

Units
Due to the diverse nature of this Applied Mathematics course, we will be looking at a wide variety of topics. Each unit of study stands on its own and does not depend on knowledge from the other units. We will be studying the following topics:
1. Statistics
2. Quadratic Functions
3. Logical Reasoning
4. Measurement
5. Systems of Inequalities
6. Trigonometry
7. Mathematics Research Project

Assessment
For each unit, a unit mark will be determined by calculating the following:
Unit Mark
Hand-In Assignments / Interactive Writing 40%
Unit Test 60%
Each unit mark throughout the term will then be weighted equally to determine a term work mark. Your term work mark will account for 70% of your final mark where the remaining 30% will be determined from a final Provincial Exam.
Final Mark
